Blogging and Youtube in the Beauty Community

Blogging and YouTube in the Beauty Community

YouTube and Blogging are two very influential avenues in the beauty community. I was thinking about blogging and how it fits into the beauty community today, with the rise of YouTube. In my opinion, blogging is still very influential and won't go anywhere. Traditional written media has been around for a long time, and when a consumer is out and about wanting a review -they will probably google an article before watching a YouTube video. I actually use the two avenues differently. I prefer YouTube for makeup tutorials, hauls, and "get ready with me" type videos but I look to blogging for product reviews, discussions posts, and product photos. If I really want to see a product, I don't feel like YouTube is sufficient. When I look at blogging, I don't feel like tutorials would be easily laid out.

Blogging works better for me, because I don't have the ability to make videos. I don't have the space or the time to set aside. Blogging is different because I can take a break from my job to work on my blog, I can sit down and write in the evenings at home. I feel like it is more flexible. It works best for me. I'm not new to blogging. I know how it works, and I love all aspects of it. I love the writing, the promoting, the social media, and I'm learning to love the photography. I have a lot to learn but I'm looking forward to it.

Do you look at both environments differently? Are you a YouTube watcher? If you're a content creator who does both- how do you decide which platform you will use? I think this will be interesting to discuss.

  2. I actually much prefer reading blogs and only watch very few YouTubers these days. I find there are more honesty in the blogging world.

    1. I've been finding "smaller" Youtubers that I like. I agree, I trust blog reviews more.

  3. I am more like you, I think that blogging is not going anywhere - and I rarely watch anything on YouTube.

  4. I watch quite a bit of YouTube but I much prefer to sit down with a cup of tea and read a good blog. I feel like bloggers are a lot more honest with their reviews which is why I will check blogs, over YouTube, before buying a particular item!

  5. I completely agree! I always read reviews on blogs rather than watching a review on YouTube. It takes a lot of confidence to put yourself out there in any form, but especially on YouTube considering how horrible the comments seem to be on just about any video!

  6. Same here, youtube and blogging are great outlets but I go to them for two completely different reasons like you, blogging is more for in depth discussions and reviews

  7. Same with me for reviews I read blogs. I find blogs and small YouTubers to be more honest than the famous ones. YouTube is more for hauls, makeup lessons. :-)

  8. I totally agree with you! I love watching YouTube but it's more for tutorials or get ready with me's. Blogs are what I like to read for reviews and learning about new products! I also love the pictures. This was a very interesting read!

  9. Great post! I love going to both for reviews! I look at a number of them before making a purchase. Taking in both the pros and cons of products. They're both helpful.
